Introduction to Pinhole Photography
Pinhole photography is a very simple form of photography that has been in use for a long time. Photographic film is not used at all, the image is transferred directly to the photographic paper.
The camera used in this series was made by hand by myself. It consists of an old box, sealed for light leaks with a small piece of brass with a tiny pinhole in it affixed to take the image. A piece of photo paper is affixed opposite the pierced brass inside the box. The hole in the brass is covered until a picture is taken and the box is held very still for a variable period of time, from 30 seconds to 5 minutes, depending on the image. Light glare and dust shadows or highlights are a part of the photomaking process and are sometimes used to their advantage, like in the print Magical Toilet.
